- A novel organic rectorite (OREC) was prepared by treating the natural sodium-rectorite (Na-REC) with ionic liquid 1-hexadecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C16mim]Br). X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the interlayer spacing of the OREC was expanded from 2.23nm to 3.14nm. Furthermore, two types of OREC/epoxy nanocomposites were prepared by using epoxy resin (EP) as matrix, 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazole (2-E-4-MI) and tung oil anhydride (TOA) as curing agents, respectively. XRD and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis showed that the intercalated nanocomposite was obtained with addition of the curing agent 2-E-4-MI, and the exfoliated nanocomposite was obtained with addition of the curing agent TOA when the OREC content was less than 2 wt %. For the exfoliated nanocomposite, the mechanical and thermal property tests indicated that it had the highest improvement when OREC content was 2 wt% in EP. Compared to pure EP, 60.3% improvement in tensile strength, 26.7% improvement in bending strength, 34% improvement in bending modulus, 14℃improvement in thermal decomposition temperature (Td) and 5.7℃improvement in glass transition temperature (Tg) were achieved.

- A novel dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) method followed by HPLC analysis, termed sequential DLLME, was developed for the preconcentration and determination of aryloxyphenoxy-propionate herbicides (i.e. haloxyfop-R-methyl, cyhalofop-butyl, fenoxaprop-P-ethyl, and fluazifop-P-butyl) in aqueous samples. The method is based on the combination of ultrasound-assisted DLLME with in situ ionic liquid (IL) DLLME into one extraction procedure and achieved better performance than widely used DLLME procedures. Chlorobenzene was used as the extraction solvent during the first extraction. Hydrophilic IL 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride was used as a dispersive solvent during the first extraction and as an extraction solvent during the second extraction after an in situ chloride exchange by bis[(trifluoromethane)sulfonyl]imide. Several experimental parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were studied and optimized with the design of experiments using MINITABR 16 software. Under the optimized conditions, the extractions resulted in analyte recoveries of 78–91%. The correlation coefficients of the calibration curves ranged from 0.9994 to 0.9997 at concentrations of 10–300, 15–300, and 20–300μg/L. The relative SDs (n=5) ranged from 2.9 to 5.4%. The LODs for the four herbicides were between 1.50 and 6.12μg/L.

- Gold-copper alloy nanoparticles (AuCu NPs) were electrodeposited on a graphene – ionic liquid composite film (EGN-IL). The AuCu NPs showed high electrocatalysis to the oxidation of hydrazine with a catalytic reaction rate constant of about 5.0×104 mol/Ls. In phosphate buffer solutions (pH 6.8) the oxidation current of hydrazine at 0.15 V (vs. SCE) at the resulting electrode (AuCu-EGN-IL/GCE) was linear to its concentration in the range of 0.2–110μM with a sensitivity of 56.7μA/mM, and the detection limit was 0.1μM(S/N=3). The electrode was successfully applied to the determination of waste water.

- Based on graphene (GR), TiO2 nanorods, and chitosan (CTS) nanocomposite modified carbon ionic liquid electrode (CILE) as substrate electrode, a new electrochemical DNA biosensor was effectively fabricated for the detection of the transgenic soybean sequence of MON89788. By using methylene blue (MB) as hybridization indicator for monitoring the hybridization with different ssDNA sequences, the differential pulse voltammetric response of MB on DNA modified electrodes were recorded and compared. Due to the synergistic effects of TiO2 nanorods and GR on the electrode surface, the electrochemical responses of MB were greatly increased. Under optimal conditions the differential pulse voltammetric response of the target ssDNA sequence could be detected in the range from 1.0×10-12 to 1.0×10-6 mol/L with a detection limit of 7.21×10-13 mol/L (3σ). This electrochemical DNA biosensor was further applied to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) product of transgenic soybeans with satisfactory results.
