Aim and the nature of conference
In 1966, the first EUCHEM Conference on Molten Salts took place in Norway and the conference series continued to run in even years until 2004, when a paradigm shift in thinking occurred. In 2006, the molten salt and ionic liquid communities joined forces for the first time, and the EUCHEM Conference on Molten Salts was re-launched as the EUCHEM Conference on Molten Salts and ionic liquids. This way EUCHEM 2014 is the 5th Conference on Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids, but it is the 25th conference in the original series of EUCHEM molten salts meetings.
The merging of molten salt and ionic liquid fields was natural progression towards a unique platform for molten salt and ionic liquid scientists to share and exchange knowledge as well as ideas and experience. Both fields, molten salts and ionic liquids, have contributed to new fundamental insight and advanced which have allowed to explore new research areas and to realize new technical applications.
The EUCHEM 2014 Conference on Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids aims to provide a forum to discuss the state-of-the-art in molten salt and ionic liquid research, and how to transfer of these methods and techniques between the different temperature regimes, also about the future perspectives of ionic media used for academic and industrial purposes.
In the spirit of previous EUCHEM meetings, this conference will be an integrated event to maximise interaction between attendees. Hopefully city of Tallinn with its attractive medieval centre will give fruitful and inspiring background for our conference.
